How Qatar gratuity is calculated
Under Article 54 of the Qatar Labour Law, a worker who completes at least one year of service is owed an end of service gratuity of at least three weeks' basic wage for each year of service:
- 21 days of basic wage for every year, with no change after five years.
- Part years after the first year are paid in proportion.
- A day's basic wage is the monthly basic ÷ 30.
- Your contract can give more, but not less.
Resigning does not reduce the gratuity. It can be lost if you are dismissed without notice for gross misconduct under Article 61. Days of unpaid leave are usually not counted as service.
Worked examples (basic QAR 5,000)
| Service | Days paid | Gratuity |
|---|---|---|
| 1 years | 21 days | QAR 3,500 |
| 3 years | 63 days | QAR 10,500 |
| 5 years | 105 days | QAR 17,500 |
| 7 years | 147 days | QAR 24,500 |
| 10 years | 210 days | QAR 35,000 |
| 15 years | 315 days | QAR 52,500 |
Example for 5 years: QAR 5,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 166.67 a day. 5 × 21 = 105 days × QAR 166.67 = QAR 17,500.
