How to calculate final settlement in Qatar

By the Sumtrail editorial team. Published 17 October 2026. Last updated 17 October 2026.

When your job in Qatar ends, your employer owes you a final settlement. This guide shows what goes into it and how to work out each part.

What a Qatar final settlement includes

  • Unpaid salary for the days worked up to your last day.
  • End of service gratuity after at least one year of service: at least 21 days of basic salary for each year (Article 54).
  • Unused annual leave, paid on basic salary (Article 81). Leave is 3 weeks a year, or 4 weeks after five years.
  • Notice pay if your employer ended the contract without letting you work the notice period.
  • Any return ticket, overtime or allowances owed under your contract.

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Daily basic = basic salary ÷ 30. Daily total = total salary ÷ 30.
  2. Gratuity = daily basic × 21 × years of service (part years in proportion).
  3. Leave pay = daily basic × unused leave days.
  4. Unpaid salary = daily total × days not yet paid.
  5. Notice pay = total salary for any notice days you were not allowed to work.
  6. Add them up and take off lawful deductions such as loans or advances.

Worked example

Basic salary QAR 6,000, total salary QAR 9,000, 6 years 3 months of service, 12 unused leave days, 10 days of unpaid salary, notice fully served.

PartWorkingAmount
GratuityQAR 200 × 21 × 6.25QAR 26,250
Unused leave12 × QAR 200QAR 2,400
Unpaid salary10 × QAR 300QAR 3,000
Final settlementQAR 31,650

Notice period

Either side can end an open-ended contract with written notice: at least one month for up to two years of service and two months after that (Article 49), unless the contract gives more. If the notice is not given, the side that ended the contract pays the wage for the notice period.

Does resigning reduce it?

No. In Qatar the gratuity is the same whether you resign or your employer ends the contract, once you have a full year of service. It can be lost only for dismissal without notice for gross misconduct (Article 61).

If you are not paid

Ask your employer for a written breakdown first. If the settlement is late or wrong, you can file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour, which refers unresolved cases to the Labour Dispute Settlement Committee.

Work out your own figures with the Qatar final settlement calculator, check the gratuity alone with the Qatar gratuity calculator, or compare with other countries in the GCC gratuity comparison.
